Artek U336 pendant
Description
Artek's U336 pendant light was designed in 1948 by Danish Jørn Utzon, who had earlier worked at Alvar Aalto’s architect office; he is best known, however, as the architect of the Sydney Opera House. The luminaire's beautifully layered shade diffuses the light softly and pleasantly but, at the same time, also provides downwards light – the lamp is ideally placed over a dining table, for example. The simple, functionalist shape is complemented by the light patterns adorning the luminaire’s white-painted steel surface, reflected upwards and downwards from the centre part of the luminaire.
