Its development began in 1968 as the Chevrolet version of the Pontiac Gran Prix. Much of the car was modeled after the Cadillac Eldorado of the day with its long hood voluptuous Coke-bottle styling and abundant brightwork. The front grille with 720 tiny slots a bright red knight’s crest and 2 horizontal dividers is unique to the 1970 model year. With multiple trim levels to choose from the SS 454 package was by far the most powerful at a bargain upgrade of only $420. That included the Turbo-Jet 454ci motor with 4bbl carb rated at 360hp at 4800 rpm. Heavy-duty suspension wider tires "SS 454" badging automatic load-leveling rear suspension and the Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission rounded out the SS 454 package. Chevrolet created a beast!
