Carl Hansen & Søn's CH24 chair, also known as Wishbone, is a true Danish design classic known and beloved all around the world. Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949, the Wishbone chair is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship that has been in production ever since 1950. Each year, Carl Hansen & Søn introduces the Wishbone chair in a special edition to celebrate Hans J. Wegner's birthday on April 2nd. In 2023, the CH24 Birthday Edition chair is made of certified oak and a double-weave paper cord. Each chair also has an engraved brass plate with Wegner's signature and date of birth, so even the next generation will know how special this limited edition is! The paper cord seat of the 2023 birthday chair is woven in a different style than the usual Wishbone seats. The idea for this weave came from Carl Hansen & Søn's THE LAB workshop, where young cabinetmakers were given the task of coming up with a new kind of seat for the Wishbone chair. The best proposal was a weave made with a double paper cord, which was then further developed by the weave masters of Carl Hansen & Søn.
