And once she got back home, Clara Barton helped found the American Red Cross, where she served as president until she was 83 in 1904. They created a silhouette that would look right at home in the 1860s with billowing sleeves and a floor-length skirt with a built-in petticoat. At the same time, they've added handy modern shortcuts to make slipping back into time easier such as a zipper up the back and elastic around the wrists.
