Made by Balouchi tribes in the village of Mushwani, in the province of Herat, this kilim is 100% wool with a .10 pile height and is dyed with pure vegetable dyes. The equivalent weave of this rug is 250 KPSI. With regular vacuuming and annual professional cleaning, this rug will last for years to come. The warp strands are used as the foundation and the weft strands are used as both part of the foundation and in creating the patterns. The weft strands are simply passed through the warp strands. Due to the handmade nature of our kilims, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. HERAT ORIENTAL has been providing authentic, handmade rugs to Worldstock for over 10 years, creating jobs for over 2,000 local village weavers in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. The majority of the weavers are women who greatly support their families through this work. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
