Features: One-of-a-kind handmade rug from Afghanistan Geometric pattern and lively design in dominant colors of blue, red, and brown Made by weavers in the villages of Zakini, Taimani, and Kowdani in Herat province Crafted using 100% wool with a knot count of 120 per square inch Pile height of 0.25 inches Story Behind the Art: As a result of past wars and foreign invasions in Afghanistan, most of the weavers have moved to the cities and are no longer weaving rugs. This handmade Balouchi rug was crafted by the remaining weavers in a primitive way on flat wooden looms that lay on the ground. The rug is made from 100% wool from their own sheep and all washing and natural vegetable dying of the wool is done in their villages. Due to the handmade nature of the rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. The majority of the weavers are women who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. By purchasing this rug, you are supporting these female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to sell their crafts.
