Features: Unique one-of-a-kind piece of world art Lively geometric patterns Knot count of 150 per square inch 0.25 inches pile height Made of 100-percent wool Colors of red, navy, gold, beige, and brown Story Behind the Art: Due to the past 30 years of war and foreign invasion in Afghanistan, most weavers have moved to the cities and no longer weave rugs. However, this rug was made by weavers in the primitive villages of Herat on flat wooden looms with wool from their own sheep. All washing and natural vegetable dyeing is done in their villages. As a result of the handmade nature of these rugs, sizes may vary by 3-4 inches. The majority of weavers are women living in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, and your purchase helps create more jobs for them. The community thrives from rug weaving as local farmers benefit from wool sales and local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs. Imported.
