This Balouchi rug, however, was crafted by the weavers in the villages of Zakini, Taimani, and Kowdani in the province of Herat. These weavers use 100% wool from their own sheep and weave on flat wooden looms that lay on the ground. Natural vegetable dyeing and washing are also done in their villages. The handmade nature of this rug means that sizes may vary up to 3-4 inches. Regular vacuuming and professional cleaning will keep your rug looking new for years to come. The majority of the weavers are women, who benefit from the jobs created by rug weaving. The community also thrives as local farmers raise sheep for wool, and artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use. Imported.
