Therefore, newly woven Balouchi rugs are rare in the market. This rug is unique as it was made by the weavers in the Herat province using 100-percent wool from their own sheep. All washing and natural vegetable dying is also done in their villages. The majority of weavers are women from Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The purchase of this rug helps create job opportunities for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so, while also benefiting local farmers who raise sheep for wool and local artisans who create natural and vegetable dyes.
