Description
Made in the 1880s, this rug is a true antique that gives your decor an elegant and refined look that is perfect for traditional spaces. Most Turkomans in Afghanistan belong to the Ersari tribe, a large ethnic group sub-divided into clans, many of which have their own individual carpet motifs and designs. The two best-known designs are the elephant's foot, (a large octagonal gul) and the Bukhara pattern. Turkoman rugs are typically deep red colors with the elephant foot design, which has been repeated for centuries. This rug is hand-knotted to offer the best in quality and craftsmanship that continues to stand the test of time. The neutral color scheme seamlessly fits into your classic decor, and the material is free of latex to guard against allergic reactions. The process of rug making includes cleaning, washing and dyeing the wool, and then weaving the rug with vegetable-dyed wool. Features: These tribal rugs are made of 100% wool pile and vegetable dyes. The knot count per square inch for this rug is 250. The pile height is 0.20 inches. Colors include brown, black, ivory and green. Due to the handmade nature of our rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. Regular vacuuming and annual professional cleaning will keep your rug looking new for years to come. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. As we grow, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs. The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected.
