The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The weavers use natural vegetable dyes to give the rugs their rich colors. The rug-making process is hand-tufted where weavers insert yarn into the rug backing with a hand-held tufting gun to push and pull the threads through a pre-woven grid foundation. The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design, making each rug one-of-a-kind.
