The weavers use natural and vegetable dyes such as madder for red, walnut peel for dark brown, pomegranate peel for light brown, and sparak for yellow. The majority of the weavers are women who live in villages in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. HERAT ORIENTAL has been providing authentic handmade rugs to Worldstock for over 10 years, creating jobs for more than 2,000 local village weavers. The community thrives from rug weaving as local farmers benefit from wool sales, and local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
