Description
Eames Molded Plastic ArmchairThe now-classic Mid-Century design of the Herman Miller Eames Molded Plastic Armchair was created in 1948 using two materials/techniques which Charles and Ray Eames had pioneered and perfected: bent and welded wire for the base, and a shaped plastic shell seat. The world's first plastic chair to be mass produced, it was supremely comfortable, stylish, versatile, and allowed the actual materials of the chair to take center stage. Without padding, leather, cushions, or traditional armrests, the Eames' created a chair that would naturally support the human body, and a transparent modern design that will look great in anywhere in your home. The Eames molded plastic chairs are as beloved today as when they were first introduced in 1948. Whether being used in large spaces like auditoriums or cafeterias, or on their own in elegant homes, libraries, and conference rooms, these chairs unite enduring form and quality construction in a comfortable, durable seat. Charles and Ray Eames adapted molding techniques developed during World War II to mass produce this classic design. These molded plastic armchairs are true to the originals and are fully authentic, with updated materials to meet environmental requirements. Their enduring forms and quality construction make them comfortable, durable performers.Features include: High, flexible back, with a deep seat pocket; Waterfall front seat edge to ease pressure on back of knees; The shell is dyed throughout so colors remain vibrant even after years of frequent use; 100% recyclable polypropylene; Overall Dimensions: 25" w x 24"" d x 31.5"" h; Seat Height: 16.25""; Arm Height: 26""; OFFICIAL HERMAN MILLER RETAILERWe're an authorized Herman Miller retailer. You can purchase confidently from Office Designs knowing you'll be receiving genuine Herman Miller product. The most creative and intricate base available for these chairs is the wire base, often called the Eiffel base after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The reason it's called that is obvious when you see the chair; the legs taper upwards until they join near the seat, then expand back out. In between the legs of the chairs wire designs criss-cross and join together. While the look is certainly not a copy of the Eiffel tower, the associations between the towers of the legs and the connecting wires are clear. Like the Eiffel Tower, this particular base is notable mainly for the way it looks and not for its function. It's clearly a monument to design, creativity, and re-imagined modes of support, in the same way that the tower is a monument to architecture, creative freedom and a new century.BRAND STORYHerman Miller is a pioneer in the furniture industry, an innovator whose human-centered, problem-solving approach to design has introduced new ways of living and working for over 100 years. Environmentally-friendly design, lean manufacturing, ergonomics, the open office, even American modernism itself: Herman Miller and our designers have had a hand in shaping it all. In the spirit of our founder, D.J. De Pree, who established a willingness to abandon ourselves creatively to the influence of others, we've partnered with the world's leading designers for generations-from midcentury icons George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, and Alexander Girard to Michael Anastassiades, Scholten & Baijings, Yves Béhar, and more of today's leading design minds. Our work with them continues to explore design as a method of change, and the enriching value authenticity brings to our lives. Together, we're shaping the new kinds of spaces where people will live and work for years to come."
