Iittala Aalto vase 175 x 140 mm
Description
The narrow Aalto vase by Iittala is a relaunch of a rare vase model, originally in production in 1937. Shaped like a boomerang, the vase was re-introduced in 2021 in celebration of Iittala’s 140th anniversary, and it is only available as a limited, numbered edition of 2021 pieces. Although the vase looks rather different than the organic form of the classic Aalto vase, it belongs to the same glassware collection Alvar Aalto created for the World Fair in Paris in 1937. Each vase is mouth-blown at the Iittala glassworks in Finland, where Iittala’s master glassblowers use a special wooden mould to achieve the vase’s organic, varied texture. Each and every vase is a unique piece that showcases the artisans’ exquisite skills in their craft, not to mention the inconceivable talent of Alvar Aalto.
