Sir Frederic Leighton, (1830 - 1896), was an English painter and sculptor. He was educated in London and Florence and is associated with the Pre-Raphaelites movement and artists. As head of the Royal Academy from 1878 to his death, his works depicted historical, biblical, and classical subject matter, and his paintings represented Britain at the great 1900 Paris Exhibition.
