Description
24" X 36"" Flower Garden at Annisquam (also known as Garden Ironbound Island Maine) was John Leslie Breck but it is unknown specifically when he painted this piece. We do know that it was painted after he returned to New England from Europe in 1892. Breck had left Giverny after the summer of 1891 after becoming involved romantically with Monet's step-daughter. Monet disapproved of the union which lead to Breck departure. The village of Annisquam, on Cape Ann near Gloucester provided the artist much inspiration. The lush summer blooms in a multitude of vibrant colors crawl across the canvas. The original is in a private collection after selling at Christie's for 270,000 in November of 2000 but our true to original reproduction offers the same summery landscape of bright flowers reaching for the sun.
