Description
20" X 24"" Woman Sitting is one of Tivadar Kosztka Csontvary's earlier paintings which was created in 1895, before the high of his career. Csontvary was highly controversial for his time for his vegetarianism, anti-alcoholism, anti-smoking, pacifism as well as his prophetic writings and pamphlets regarding his own life. All though it's unclear when and where it was painted, this portrait demonstrates that Csontvary had excellent training. On October 13, 1880, Csontvary wrote that he heard a voice say to him "" you will be the greatest sunway painter, greater than Raphael!"" After this experience, the artist took to traveling and painting. Today, Tivadar Kosztka Csontvary is considered one of the greatest Hungarian artists. It is thought that the artist suffered from increasingly disruptive schizophrenia. Today this piece is part of the National Hungarian Gallery. We have recreated this post-impressionist painting with the same rich colors and attention to detail with oil on canvas, to make you feel as though you are looking at the original.
