Description
Marimekko’s Pieni Unikko apron features Maija Isola’s iconic floral pattern in unbleached cotton and light blue. The apron is made of cotton and has waist straps and a pocket on the front. The size can be adjusted with the neckband’s snap buttons. The pattern’s delicate light blue colour comes from a natural indigo plant, Finnish-grown woad. The plant-based dye will naturally soften when washed, used and exposed to light. The Unikko pattern came about in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had announced in public that no floral fabrics are designed at Marimekko. Maija Isola did not accept rules or restrictions and designed in protest a complete collection of bold floral patterns: Unikko, a Finnish word that means poppy. Today, Unikko is one of Marimekko's best-known patterns and recognized around the world.
