Product Features: Dimension: 6.25" H x 9.5"" W x 4.5"" D Weight: 0.59 Color: Brown Material: Recycled papier mache, banana tree trunk fiber Made in Brazil Story Behind the art: The Gente de Fibra Artisan Cooperative was created in parallel to the Rural Tourism Development Project in Maria da Fé in 1998. This project emerged from the partnership between the City Hall and SEBRAE - MG. One of the objectives of the project was to develop a craft that had a local identity. In one of the meetings to discuss the project, the plastic artist Domingos Tótora presented his work, made with recycled banana fiber, which met the wishes of everyone involved in the project. From this meeting, Domingos Tótora and five women from the community accepted the challenge of developing the work, thus creating the Gente de Fibra Workshop. At the same time, other handicraft workshops were created in the city, such as Maria do Fuxico, Arte em Papel, Embalagens de Jute, Earth Angels and Fiber and Art, etc. As artisans organized and trained, their products conquered domestic and foreign markets. Aiming to strengthen the union of Mariense handicrafts, the workshops came together and in August 1999 the Cooperativa Mariense was created with 28 associates in its foundation. The Gente de Fibra Artisan Cooperative was born from the idea of leaving a better city for the future, promoting a cultural activity that relates paper and fiber recycling to the preservation of our ecological heritage. For us, preserving implies reusing. Reuse, in addition to not destroying, is an act of solidarity with our environment and with us. Our proposal is to treat recycling in a creative way and generate alternatives to the reality in which we live. Our work contributes to the economic strengthening of the community, generating income and placing quality products on the market. With exclusive and low environmental impact, we will thus increase the name of Cooperativa Mariense de Artesanato and the city of Maria da Fé. The Cooperative develops decorative and utilitarian pieces, with modern design and conscious and sustainable use of materials. Cardboard boxes, discarded by commerce and industries are recycled and transformed into paper. The banana tree trunk, discarded from the banana harvest in the region, is cooked and washed, resulting in Kraft banana fiber. For the painting of the pieces, natural pigments with red and ocher earth are used. The handmade touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen. Imported"
