Description
This is another gem from the Perzian rugs' vast repertoire of artisanal rugs. The Malayer rugs draw on the traditions of Sarouk and Hamadan rugs for both inspiration as well as stylistic adaptations. For a village rug, Malayer is quite finely woven and its wool pile is often cut short to highlight the detail and clarity of the design. Originating in western Persia, this rug has been made with vegetable dye and quality hand-spun wool. The natural wool adds not only years to the rug, but also provides dirt-repellent qualities and thermal insulation. The inner field features an intricate floral medallion in a capsule on a midnight blue field with rich floral abstractions and vinery. This antique rug is in good condition for its age and has minor age related wear. It has been professionally cleaned and is ready to use. Story Behind the Art: Originating from the charming town of Malayer, positioned to the south of Hamedan and along the route to Arak, Malayer rugs stand out for their unique amalgamation of traits reminiscent of both Hamedan and Sarouk rug styles. These rugs boast an array of designs, spanning from diamond or hexagonal medallions to intricate all-over patterns such as the iconic Herati motif. Despite their classical Perzian roots, Malayer rugs often adopt a more abstract and geometric aesthetic. A notable characteristic is that most Malayer rugs are single-wefted, exposing white cotton warps on the rug's reverse side. Their soft and harmonious color palette, occasionally enriched with deep blues and reds, transforms Malayer rugs into exquisite decorative pieces well-suited for elegant settings.
