Description
This is a beautiful Coral, Beige, Taupe, Gray, Green, Light Gold, Multi Hand Knotted Peshawar wool Rug from Pakistan. Peshawar rugs are known for tight weaving, large print designs, short, clipped pile and predominant ivory and gold tones. The wool used is lanolin rich and hand spun. Combination of Beige, Taupe, Gray, Green, Light Gold tones against a coral background elevates the color palette from the mundane to sophisticated and elegant. The main field features highly stylized botanical and floral motifs against a coral background, that is hemmed by an opulent border that complements the rug. Overall impression is one of understated elegance that blends naturally with its surroundings. Story Behind the Art: Hand-knotted rugs are Pakistan's second-largest cottage and small industry that began as early as the 11th century under the Mughal rule. The craftsmen have the capacity to produce any type of rug using all the popular motifs of guls, medallions, paisleys (botehs), traceries, and geometric designs in various combinations. While the "stone washes"" are used to fade and soften colors, the Peshawar style is characterized by a thinly sheered pile, large print designs, and most predominantly, their antique ivory and sometimes golden tones."
