Gottfried Lindauer was a Behemian and later a New Zealand artist famous for his portraits, often of prominent Bohemian figures. He also created paintings with religious themes for churches and painted frescoes in the Cathedral churches of Austria. Lindauer traveled to New Zealand to avoid being drafted to the Austrian military service, spending the rest of his days largely painting portraits of the Maori people.
