Jan Griffier was a Dutch Golden Age painter who was active in England. He produced views of Rhineland landscapes as well as of the English countryside. His city views, invaluable topographical evidence, suggest that his travels in England were extensive. He lost all his paintings in a shipwreck he undertook by boat to the Netherlands. He continued to make a living by painting landscapes.
