Giovanni Battista Tiepolo was an Italian printmaker and painter who worked throughout Italy, Germany and Spain. His cool palette created a sense of daylight that previous painters had not been able to capture, bringing him many commissions over the course of his prolific career. Together with Giambattista Pittoni, Canaletto, Giovan Battista Piazzetta, Giuseppe Maria Crespi, and Francesco Guardi, Tiepolo is known as a traditional Old Master and has been described as the greatest European decorative painter in the eighteenth century.
