Vasili Vladimirovich Pukirev was a Russian genre painter in the Realistic style. Born to a peasant family, Pukirev studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and was certified to serve as an art teacher in the public schools. Over the course of his career, his titles included Artist, Free Artist, and Academician for history and portrait painting. His best known painting, "The Unequal Marriage"", led to the title of honorary Professor at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts; it also showed a controversial departure from the usual nostalgic or sentimental genre scenes to a serious theme from modern life.
Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high quality fine art reproductions. The attainable excellence that Giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. The result is wide acceptance of Giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured a hidden, wooden frame. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
