Janet's first professional position was with the prestigious Karl Mann Studio where she ran the Orientalia painting department for 12 years, creating works for such clients as the South African and Saudi Arabian Embassies and the Roscoe Award winning Executive Suites in the Plaza Hotel. It was during her tenure with Karl Mann that she learned and perfected decorative painting techniques, adapting ancient Chinese designs for modern use in innovative and award-winning hand-painted wallpapers, textiles and murals. Janet also works in acrylic and oils to produce paintings for museums and galleries. Private collectors of Janet's work include Robert Redford, Jane Seymour and the late jazz great Dizzie Gillespie. Her work has been featured in such publications as Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Homes, House Beautiful, Vogue and House and Garden. Janet was the subject of a feature in the arts section of the Philadelphia Inquirer focusing on her murals and decorative painting for the restoration of the historic Martin Coryell House in Lambertville, New Jersey. Having worked for several years as a decorative paint consultant to leading paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore, Janet now collaborates with them on trade-related articles. Janet is equally at home on a scaffold as she is at an easel, having painted murals on the ceilings and walls of many historical buildings. Recently, Janet was honored to design and execute the murals for the Children's Chapel at historic Marble Collegiate Church. This is the only formal Children's Chapel in the United States and the only chapel designed and executed by a woman artist, truly a career highlight. Janet is very blessed to share her life and career with her husband and fellow artist, Eugene Tava. Janet and Eugene together opened TAVA STUDIOS in 1987 so that they might be allowed to pursue diverse projects while further perfecting their skills in fine and decorative arts. Both Janet and Eugene are currently affiliated with Galaxy of Graphics for licensing of their print and mural work. Janet and Eugene are nothing if not versatile and always continue to seek unique projects, the latest being a total restoration and redecoration of a 19th Century Funeral Parlor! The Tava's proudest joint creation is their beautiful daughter Alexandria who is following in her parents footsteps in both art and music.
