Sidekicks and their heroes have a complicated relationship, and no two pairings are the same. Some sidekicks are happy to be junior versions of their bosses, sort of like an apprentice hero. Some sidekicks bring a completely different skill set than the hero's, broadening the range of crimes the duo can combat efficiently. Still others look at the team-up as a bridge to bigger things, ready to break off and strike out as a solo hero as soon as they've built some name recognition. The choice of costume can say a lot about the sidekick-superhero relationship. Is your outfit a near-copy of the original? Something entirely different that stands by itself? Or, in the toughest trick to pull off, an ensemble clearly inspired by the hero's established gear but marked with a flair that makes it your own? A jazzier color scheme, perhaps, or a different cut of trousers. Maybe even an entirely different animal theme. You want to support the brand, but sidekicks need a little self-expression too, right?
