Introduced in 1955 by Coco Chanel, the Chanel Classic Flap Bag is known for its Double-C Turnlock closure, Chanel classic quilting, and leather-laced chain shoulder strap. When the original Classic Flap shoulder bags debuted, they were double flap designs with an exterior flap closure and an interior flap compartment, but then the Classic Flaps, due to their size, started featuring single flaps. The single flap bags, which do not feature an interior flap closure, were discontinued in 2014. Over the years, Chanel's Classic Flap has been produced in many different sizes and materials, but the two most popular options are caviar and lambskin. Caviar is recognized by its pebbled texture and lambskin is known for its buttery soft finish. Coco Chanel founded her namesake brand in 1910 when she opened a hat shop called Chanel Modes. Coco expanded her high-fashion product offerings and added sportswear, jewelry, handbags, tweed suits, and her first Haute Couture house. In 1982, Karl Lagerfeld was brought in as Creative Director to revive the brand.
